How to Choose a Motorcycle Alarm System - Motorcycle Security
Motorcycles pose a special risk for theft. Left unattended for even a few minutes a bike can be picked up and put in the back of a truck and stolen within seconds. While locking the steering or even chaining the rear tire provides some security, those security measures are easily bypassed.
Motorcycle Security Systems
Adding an alarm system for you motorcycle is surprisingly easy and affordable. For under $150 you can add a small system that provides detection if the bike is lifted or tilted, built in piezo alarm, flashing lights relay, current sensor and even a started immobilizer. Better Units have their own battery backup and a louder external siren.
Some of the top units even have a perimeter sensor that keeps people from getting too close to your bike. Tracking devices are also popular on motorcycle alarm systems allowing you to find you bike if someone does manage to make off with it.
All include a wireless remote keyfob to arm and disarm the system and most of them use a waterproof style construction.
Motorcycle Alarm Installation
For the most part it is very easy to install the security system and most do it yourselfers can accomplish the task. Most of the larger high end bikes require a connector harness that is made specifically for that bike and is purchased separately.
If there isn't a harness available for your bike even just connecting it to power and hiding it away will give you the piezo siren alarm if someone tries to move the bike (activating the tilt sensors).
